hi friends!
I don’t know about you dear friend, but I am a huge birthday fan. Last year, I spent the day eating tacos and cake poolside in Costa Rica so let’s just say a pandemic birthday isn’t exactly what I wanted (I don’t think anyone really did).
So, instead of drinking poolside in another country this year, I thought I would write down a few life lessons I’ve learned along the way. Hopefully you can relate, or maybe I can inspire you a little bit. Either way, I’m glad you’re here and happy birthday to me! 🙂
- Communicate often and communicate early. Communicate when it’s easy and even more when it’s hard. It will save you so many hours of frustration.
- It’s okay to be a little selfish. Set boundaries and cut out toxic people. It might hurt in the moment but you’ll be so much happier overall.
- Trust your gut. It’s usually right.
- Drink more water. Whatever amount you think you need in a day, drink more.
- Listen to your body and eat what you want. Everything in moderation, of course.
- Find the exercise that works for you- even if that’s only 10 minutes of yoga a day.
- Follow your damn dreams. No one but you can make it happen, so stop doubting yourself and get out there.
- When you’re waiting for parts of your life to begin, be patient. The universe is just trying to make it perfect for you.
- You will never be able to please everyone so don’t try. Follow your bliss.
- Cry. Let it out. It’s okay.
- Ask for help. Therapy is encouraged and is not shameful.
- Don’t bend over backwards for people who don’t like you, they won’t notice anyway.
- Stand strong in your values and goals, but be a little bit flexible.
- What you do right after college, may not be what you do forever. And that is more than okay.
- Wear what you want, when you want. When you feel good in your skin, it shows.
- Put ice in your red wine, trust me.
- Fear has no place in your life. Feel the fear and do it anyway.
- People are in your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. All relationships are okay, just identify those lifetime people and hold them tight.
- Take some time for yourself. Do a face mask, take a bath, and light a candle. Self care is so important.
- If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.
- Comparison is the thief of joy. And boy, that’s a hard lesson to learn.
- Leopard print is a neutral.
- Money is great, it makes life a lot easier, but it isn’t everything.
- Leave that toxic job.
- Life is all about making memories. Thanks for that one, Grandpa.
- Give yourself grace. You are not perfect, and you never will be.
- Love is ultimately a choice. You need to choose everyday to love your people, and show them. Love will never be easy but it is definitely worth it.
