Well, it’s official! We’re getting married!!! Ugh, I’m so excited to finally get to share and announce this and move into the next new wonderful chapter of our lives! If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you know that I am starting a Wedding Wednesday series to cover ALL things wedding! That way, if the season of life you’re in isn’t the same as mine, or you just aren’t into weddings, it’s only one day a week I’ll be talking about it (hopefully)! I strive to serve all of my followers and readers and if weddings and marriage aren’t something you need to see right now, I totally get that. I’ve unfollowed people when they got engaged when I just couldn’t handle it. But for now, Wednesdays shall be wedding related!
“So, how did he propose?!” A question I’ve gotten quite a few times since we announced it so here’s the story!
Mike and I planned a “we lived through a pandemic” double birthday trip (our birthdays are in the same week) to Cancun back in April of 2021. I was so excited and I had a sneaking suspicion that we would either be celebrating getting engaged or getting engaged so I knew this would be a big trip.
About two months before the trip, we were looking through all the Excellence Playa Mujeres had to offer and I noticed they had a romantic dinner on the beach. We did one when we were in Costa Rica and it was really nice, so I suggested we did one and Mike agreed.
Fast forward about three weeks before we were leaving, I mentioned calling the resort to schedule it before we got there and Mike said he already did and he booked the resort’s professional photographer to take pictures of us. He knows I love pictures, and we’ve been talking about putting up a gallery wall in the living room but didn’t have enough photos!
Once he suggested that I knew something was up and also knew I needed a new dress! I saw someone on Instagram wearing this dress and knew it would be perfect for the pictures!
Fast forward to the trip, and we realized he scheduled the dinner and photos on my birthday (we both forgot what day of the week my birthday was) but I decided that it was fine and we should keep the booking and dinner!
We met with the photographer at the resort and got right to work walking around the resort and taking photos. It was so much fun, but I could tell Mike was a little nervous but thought it was just because of the public photos we were taking.
Once we got to the beach, we took a few photos and mostly just fought the wind to keep my hair in place. Then, the photographer said something along the lines of “it’s a great time for photos” and Mike looked at me and said “Hey babe.” In my head, I was thinking “why is this guy talking to me, we’re trying to take pictures.” But he immediately reached into his jacket pocket and said “Can I ask you a question?” As he got down on one knee he asked me to marry him. After a couple of seconds of crying and trying not to stare at the ring, I said yes!
It was simple, perfect, and there was someone there to capture the whole moment, which is exactly what I wanted. The ring is amazing, and people on the beach congratulated us. We finished up with some more photos on the beach and then went to grab a drink to celebrate!
It was perfect, and I can’t wait to marry the love of my life!
