Since I was in fact sick throughout our entire honeymoon, I was really looking forward to a relaxing time by the pool in the Algarve! We were only able to be there for one full day (two nights) but we took advantage of it for sure!
Where We Stayed
Our travel agent booked us to stay at the Conrad Algarve and it did not disappoint! Pulling up to the hotel was breathtaking and the room was spacious and perfect! With a separate tub and shower, the bathroom was great and my favorite part of the whole trip: the bathrobe! It was so soft and cozy and oversized, I was in that bathrobe any time we were in the room!
Gusto by Heinz Beck
When we booked the hotel and I was planning out all of our meals and things to do in the Algarve, I realized that the hotel had a Michelin star restaurant in it, Gusto by Heinz Beck. We decided that since it was our honeymoon and a once in a lifetime opportunity/ one of my top bucket list was to eat at a Michelin star restaurant, we decided to splurge!
I made a reservation online and forgot about it until we were at the airport waiting for our flight. The restaurant called us to confirm our reservation and confirm any dietary restrictions. Knowing that restaurants in Portugal love to serve fish, I let them know that I didn’t eat fish and they were so accommodating!
We got the tasting menu and wine pairing, definitely a splurge but we figured- it’s our honeymoon, why not? The food was incredible, including one of the best pasta dishes I’ve ever eaten in my life and I learned that I love foie gras! When they figured out it was our honeymoon, they even brought us extra desserts! It was incredible and such a bucket list item, I’m so happy we were able to do it.
Relaxation at The Conrad Algarve
The rest of the trip was short, only one more full day, so while Mike had to do a little bit of work, I headed to the pool for some rest and relaxation! I had the best burrata caprese salad and a bottle of wine to myself! We went in mid-September and while the weather wasn’t hot, it only rained for ten minutes and in the sun it was still plenty warm! Mike eventually joined me and we hung out all afternoon just having a really nice and relaxing time, exactly what you’re supposed to do on your honeymoon!
The rest of our Algarve trip was smooth- there was a shopping center with restaurants across the street from the resort so we headed there for dinner our last night and went to The Cheeky Pup– it was so good!
All in all, I would definitely go back to the Algarve but stay for much longer and stay more near the Benagil caves so we could experience the cool caves and more touristy side but we still had a blast and it was nice to relax before the crazy experience of trying to get to Spain was!
Let me know over on Instagram if you’ve been to the Algarve!
