About 10 months ago, I started my blog! While at first it seemed intimidating, once it was done, I was surprised at how easy it actually was! I’m going to break down how to start a blog in a few easy steps below!
Pick your niche
First, you’ll have to decide what you are going to blog about! I recommend starting with a broad category, and then breaking it down into four to five content buckets you can write posts about. Make these semi-specific and topics that you are already knowledgable about so you never run out of ideas.
Brainstorm a list of topics
Now that you have your content buckets, brainstorm a bunch of ideas- I would say about 10 for each content bucket. You don’t have to write the blog posts now, just write topics and blog post ideas down so you have them for later.
However, if you want to write a few blog posts to start out with that is always a good idea! Just don’t get stuck in the writing process and never launch!
Decide on your hosting platform
One of the most important decisions you need to make is to decide how and where you are going to host your blog. You could use website builders such as Wix or Squarespace, but for personal and lifestyle blogs, a self-hosted WordPress.org blog is best for SEO purposes. I personally use Bluehost and find it incredibly easy to use.
You can also buy your domain through most hosting websites as well.
Design your site
Now the fun part! Picking a design for your website and getting it all set up! Now, it might seem daunting at first but there are free themes on the hosting platforms, but I recommend buying one that’s editable– I bought mine off of Etsy. Most of them come with instructions to set everything and troubleshoot as you go. I think it took me about 8 hours to design and tweak my site until I had it how I wanted it.
Publish!
If you’re afraid of starting and don’t want to hit publish, you need to get over it! You’ll never become a blogger until you hit publish and start creating content so just do it! Trust me, it will be worth it!
