With the Instagram age, it can be so exhausting and expensive to keep up and feel like you constantly have the cutest clothes. As a fashion blogger, I feel this extra hard but I’ve developed a few strategies in my life to save money on clothes and I want to share them with you!
Save money on clothes: Shop your closet
Let’s start with my favorite tip- shop your own closet! It’s amazing the clothes you have that you don’t even remember because you get comfortable wearing the few favorite things you have. Instead, challenge yourself to not wear your staples for a week and dig through your closet to find something new and cute you totally forgot about!
I know when I’m shooting content and I don’t have anything new- I take a hard look at my closet and sometimes just reach in and grab something and I’m always surprised by my choice.
Save money on clothes: Buy strategically
When you are shopping, whether in store or online, make sure that you are shopping for the closet you have. What I mean is, think about the staple pieces in your wardrobe like a white tee, and buy pieces that you can use to elevate it- a jean jacket or kimono. Buy things you can wear with the pieces you already have, otherwise you are going to end up with a bunch of pieces that you don’t have anything to wear with.
Save money on clothes: Never buy full price
One of my favorite ways to save money seems obvious but worth repeating- don’t buy anything without a coupon or discount code. There’s a ton of ways to find them- browser extensions, influencers, google search, etc. I share the discount codes given to me on Instagram, so be sure to follow along there as well!
Save money on clothes: Buy out of season
This tip is a little controversial, but don’t buy clothes in season. Buy fall clothes at the start of winter, buy winter clothes at the start of spring, etc. Retailers are trying to get rid of their stock for the new season and will heavily discount out of season merchandise just to get rid of it. Yes, you won’t get the most up to date style but let’s be real, clothing trends don’t really change year to year. Neutrals in the fall, bright colors in summer, floral and pastels in the spring, and a classic coat and boot look in the winter are all staple “trends” that come back year to year.
