I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite things about seasons changing into spring is the spring cleaning! Sounds weird, I know, but there is something so satisfying about really taking time to make your living space as clean and beautiful as possible and starting fresh! Here are some of my go-to tips for spring cleaning like a pro!

Make a list

Probably the most important step of all of it- make a list. Sit down with a piece of paper, and just brain dump every single thing you want to get clean and/ or organize in your house. No judgements, just get it all written down.

Now, take the first list and make a second (I sound crazy I know)- but this list should be organized into rooms and all the tasks you want to do in every room. That way you aren’t running around trying to clean all around when you can focus on one room at a time.

Take it all out

Take everything out of every drawer, cupboard, closet, etc. that you want to organize. You should throw out anything that is expired (including beauty products), any product you haven’t used or item of clothing you haven’t used in a year. Go through drawers for things with holes as well, including underwear and socks.

Throw out things you can’t donate, and make a plan to donate things you no longer need as soon as possible after your spring cleaning expedition- you don’t want clutter after you’ve done all this work.

Put everything you are keeping away, but do it intentionally. Always wish your pajama pants were in a different drawer? Move them now. Get bins if you need them, new hangers, etc. so you can put everything away efficiently!

Strip it down

Take all of the fabrics in your house off their surfaces- curtains, bedding, throw blankets, towels and wash them accordingly. This will get all of the dust and dirt off so it’s not going into your air!

If you want to take things to another level, strip your bedding and towels before you wash. Here is a tutorial on how to strip fabric.

Air it out

Before I start any of the cleaning, I open every single window. I like to clean with the windows open so all the dust, cleaning sprays, etc. can go out the window and there is nothing better than a clean house that smells like sunshine and fresh air!

Develop a cleaning schedule

Probably my most important tip- get yourself on a cleaning schedule. Pick certain tasks to do everyday and dedicate each day to doing the daily tasks and also deep cleaning one area of your house. This will keep you from spending your weekend cleaning!

Here’s my cleaning schedule for reference:

DAILY:

  • Make bed
  • All dishes done before bed
  • Take the trash out
  • Wipe down counters after dinner

MONDAY: deep clean the kitchen

TUESDAY: clean the bedrooms and laundry day- ALL of it including bedding

WEDNESDAY: deep clean all bathrooms

THURSDAY: vacuum and mop all the floors

FRIDAY: dust, organize, catch up on cleaning if you missed a day
